It’s a proven fact that deaths due to gunshots are happening every year. There are good Americans who only use guns for protection, especially if they are living with their families. Furthermore, they believe that guns save lives more than they cause accidents.
Second Myth: It is dangerous even when used for protection.
The bureau of statistics show how safe guns are and how effective they have been whenever used as means of self defense. Substantially, when guns are used for protection, it rarely results in injuries. Scientific data and examination were analyzed to probe the danger of opting to own a gun.
Third Myth: Gun violence has been so epidemic.
Many of the people strongly acclaims that gun violence happens. However, there are remarkable incidents that you must consider. The FBI has been on its feet in the investigation of the matter. For decades, the rates for homicides have been declining and are positively stable, except for places where young adults are involved in doing drug trafficking. It has been concluded from actual causes that violence have originated from disruption in families, media and poverty rather than mere ownership. Some inner cities have crimes due to severe poverty and it has unfortunately become a career choice rather than seeking decent opportunities.
Fourth Myth: Owning a gun greatly increases homicide.
It has been over twenty years (20 years) that teens are illegally buying guns and even when there is gun control, the homicide rates seem to vary. They have considered the easy purchase of guns in Virginia a mystery. The murder rates have declined and apparently, gunshots are not the culprits. Accidents caused by gunshots have been drastically declining. When it comes to suicide rates, the gun bans have worked their craft. Owning a gun does not necessarily mean that homicide may follow after.
Fifth Myth: The fallacy of family and friends.
It’s not logical to think that your family and friends are killing each other due to the sole reason that a gun is present in their household. This scenario has been commonly believed by the advocates of public health. Moreover, they think that most shootings are initiated by family and friends rather than caused by accidents. The literature from the medical field theorized that people who pull the trigger in murders once were law abiding citizens.
Although there are a variety of myths on gun control, it takes thorough probing to determine whether or not it’s true. People have different priorities and perspectives. Most gun owners nowadays choose to own a gun for safety purposes and never would they want to harm or cause accidents. Owning a gun can strengthen your safety and add to your self defense. Furthermore, because of the gun control existing in different places, it ensures your limitations in using guns. Truly, there is a risk in owning one but having one would give you peace of mind.
If you’re a hunter, you know that one of the trickiest parts of deer hunting—aside from finding and shooting a deer—is cleaning and dressing the deer once you’ve shot it. It’s a messy, time-consuming job, and every step of the way, you run the risk of going too far with your knife and damaging the meat. If you’re planning on both eating the meat and using the deer’s hide, that means hurting both parts of the animal that you were planning on using.
One way to get around the problem is to separate the skin from the meat before you start cutting, which will make the job a lot easier and cleaner. Believe it or not, an air compressor can help you do just that – however you’ll need a great quality portable air compressor. If you’ve ever seen a cook make Peking duck, it’s the same principle—use air to get the skin off the meat, then cook it—so this isn’t a completely crazy idea.
Here’s what you’ll need to do.
First, hang the deer as you would normally do. This time, however, instead of starting to skin the deer as usual, take your knife and make a small hole in one of the legs. Make sure that the hole is big enough for the nozzle of your air compressor to fit inside.
Second, place the nozzle of your compressor into the hole. If the hole is too small, you’ll obviously need to make it bigger. If the hole is too big, then wrap something around the end of the nozzle (a towel, cloth, or something like that) so that it fits tightly inside the hole. A tight fit is essential in this case, because otherwise the air will just escape through the extra room in the hole and you won’t be able to do the job properly.
Third, turn on the air compressor. You’ll notice that it does a pretty quick job of separating the skin. That’s because the compressor is generating enough psi to break the connections that hold the animal’s hide onto its muscles; this is the really messy, time-consuming part of the job if you’re trying to do this by hand.
Fourth, repeat the process as needed on the rest of the animal. When you run the compressor through the hole in the deer’s leg, you’ll see where the skin stops separating. That’s because compressed air can only go so far. It’s not a problem—just move a bit further down on the deer (or on the opposite leg), make another small hole, and start again.
Fifth, skin the deer. Compressed air can make the job easier, but it can’t do the job for you. Once you’ve separated the skin from the muscle, you’ll still need to go in with your skinning knife and finish the job. Fortunately, with the skin separated as it is, skinning the deer will be a lot faster.
It may sound a bit strange, but using compressed air really does make skinning deer a lot faster, easier, and cleaner. Try it once, and chances are you’ll be convinced.
If you find yourself not as proficient with your handgun as you thought you were, no worries, there are a few ways in which you can improve your handgun accuracy. These include the Wall Drill, Balance Drill and Dry shooting. By doing these simple drills, you will find yourself using your handgun with more accuracy and proficiency.
The Wall Drill
The way you do this is quite simple. With an unloaded gun, go to your area of practice with no ammunition and take your normal firing grip on your gun with your trigger finger, in a safe place of course, off of the trigger and higher up on the side frame of the gun. You are then going to want to extend your arms out with the gun pointed towards the wall ending the muzzle 1” away from it. Line up the sights and concentrate only on the front sight through your rear sight. The trigger must also be presses straight to the rear without moving the rest of the gun and messing up the sight picture. Every time you perform this drill you are learning to concentrate on the front sight through the rear sight, pressing the trigger to the rear without moving the rest of the gun and disturbing your alignment with the sight, placing your finger on the trigger while the firearm is on the target and taking your finger off of the trigger when the gun is not on target, placing your trigger finger high on the frame and away from your trigger when not on target, re-establishing your grip, and concentrating on the front sight through the rear and not looking at your target where your shot went.
The Balance Drill
You are going to want to balance a shell casing or coil on the front sight and establish your grip and extend to dry fire. You are going to want to follow the same procedure as you did with the wall drill. With some guns, this drill cannot be done because it is impossible to balance anything on the sight. If this is a problem, forget the drill, if not, keep reading. If you have pressed the trigger the correct way, the casing or coin will remain on the sight because the gun did not move. If it does fall, this means that you moved the gun as you pressed the trigger. Also, make sure you follow through after the “click”. Take the casing or coin off of the gun to reset the trigger then try again.
Dry shooting is essentially shooting without anything inside of the gun, or shooting with plastic bullets to get the real effect of shooting real bullets. Find a spot or a target on a nearby wall, line up your sights on the target, and slowly squeeze the trigger with your trigger finger. This drill is meant to teach you how to focus on your front sight and this will in turn help you to develop your marksmanship skills. One you rely on your front sight and learning how to properly cycle your trigger is what allows you to keep all of your shots that you fired, on the target.
With these three hints and tips, you will greatly improve your accuracy and proficiency with your handgun. Make sure you are following all of the safety precautions, even if you are just dry shooting and your gun is empty.
With hunting season just around the corner its time to dust the cobwebs off your camping and hunting gear and start planning your next adventure into the wilderness. Before you get to excited however, stop for a moment and remember he most important aspect of a successful hunting trip: adequate hydration.
The human body is made up of about 75 percent water and you will not survive more than a few days without consuming water. There are a lot of important organs inside of your body that depend on water and if you do not consume it then your body will not work properly – for example, your blood contains a lot of water and it carries oxygen to the cells throughout your body. If your body doesn’t have oxygen carried by the blood then the cells will die and your body will not work properly.
There are several ways/methods to get the correct water intake amount for your body but by far the best way is to drink good old plain water. There are a lot of foods that also contain water such as fresh fruit and vegetables which can help. If you are going to be pushing your body’s limits in the rugged terrain of the back country then it is important that you make sure that you are hydrated because a dangerous situation can spring up on you at any moment.
Your body can lose about 4% of your overall body weight in the form of sweat; this can cause your blood to have less fluid because of the loss of water. This makes your blood thicker and increases your hearts work load, which puts you at risk for a heart attack or stroke.
Being properly hydrated is important before, during and after your next hunting trip to make sure that your body has what it needs to be at its best performance. Here are a few things you should know about staying hydrated during hunting season:
The average human should have about 2 or more quarts minimum of water a day. If you’re hunting in the heat or rugged terrains of the back country then you should drink more than 2 quarts of water. Another way to figure out how much water you should be consuming is to drink half of your body weight in ounces. (For example: If you weigh 120lbs, then you should be drinking 60 ounces of water a day.)
Beverages like soda, coffee, juice or tea will not keep you hydrated because they are diuretics and they will make you eliminate more water than you take in. About 70% of Americans are dehydrated on a daily basis because they are consuming sugary caffeinated beverages instead of water.
A few signs of dehydration are thirst, reduced urine, darker yellow colored urine output, dry mouth, no sweat, nausea and weakness. Just a sip of water will help quench your thirst but it will not prevent your body from becoming dehydrated. Dehydration can cause a decrease in motor skills, attentiveness and memory, so if you find yourself in a fog you might want to try drinking some water.
Sometimes thirst can be mistaken for hunger. If you are slightly dehydrated it can cause your body to crave sugary or salty food, so if you think you need a snack you should try drinking a large glass of water first.
Dehydration is nothing to joke about because it could become a potentially life threatening condition. If you become extremely dehydrated then you could become confused, disorientated, your body can shut down or go into a coma state.
Slowly replacing your fluids can help you become hydrated but if the case is critical you might require an IV drip. An electrolyte solution could help rehydrate you, but it is important not to consume them too quickly.
Dehydration can be a life threatening condition but it is avoidable – if you’re planning a hunting trip make sure to bring fresh filtered water. Personally, I prepare ahead of times and fill up water storage canisters with fresh filtered water from my handy water filter pitcher days before the trip.
Feeling a little more survivalistic? If there is water nearby, you might want to consider an ultraviolet water purifier so that you don’t have to weigh yourself down with water bottles.
